Objectives
The purpose of the MSc Programme in Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics (APPLY) is to train and educate aspiring field and simulation engineers, R&D specialists and future industry managers in the multi-disciplinary field of applied CFD.
The overarching goal is to enable Programme participants to apply, develop and communicate knowledge in the cross-field between Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and programming in High Performance Computing. To do so, they will be educated in courses strongly related to real problems of various industry sectors including aerospace, automobile, energy and environment. Also, beyond coursework, the program is structured around:
• industry placement, in relevant businesses, government agencies, etc.
• digital learning, to allow modern forms of learning, as well as to enable contribution from experts across the globe in the development of the program.
• promoting cooperation, exchange of know-how and good practices in the subject area between EU and PC HEIs.
• establishing viable synergies and links with the regional industry in order to address their needs in specialized personnel and enhance the employability of APPLY graduates.
• contributing to local economic growth, by providing to program participants the right knowledge/skills/tools to turn the local engineering sector into a driver of social and economic growth.
Outputs & Outcomes
• Developing the MSc programme in the multi-discipline area of Computational Fluid Dynamics;
• The establishment of APPLY labs in PC HEIs that will act as foci for research and innovation in the area;
• Developing tailor-made VET courses to cover the immediate personnel training needs of the local and regional businesses in the short-term;
• Training the academic staff of PC HEIs in the new courses and appropriate delivery methods;
• Viable synergies and links with the regional industry will be established, through 1. the internship programme, 2. the VET component, 3. info days organized by all PC HEIS and 4. targeted dissemination activities including the Final Conference.
• The employability of APPLY graduates will be enhanced by 1. the fact that APPLY will address existing labour needs of the industry, 2. by participating in the APPLY info days in which they will come in touch with local businesses and 3. by completing internships in local business thus gaining valuable job experience and building their work profile.
• Cooperation, exchange of know-how and good practices in the subject area between EU and PC HEIs will be achieved with 1. five capacity building study visits (3 in Europe for curricula development and 3 in Asia for training), 2. the APPLY VLE that will ensure the proper online training of PCs academic staff during and after the project and act as a research portal for publications, cooperation and exchange of new ideas, 3. the active involvement of European partners in all stages of the project, including the delivery of the programme where they will provide feedback for its improvement during and after it has been completed.
